GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Wake Forest junior midfielder Bayley Feist has been named this week’s ACC Offensive Player of the Week, while Clemson sophomore goalkeeper Sandy MacIver is this week’s ACC Defensive Player of the Week.
Feist scored both goals in Wake Forest’s 2-1 win over No. 16/9 Florida State on Sunday, Oct. 15 to mark the Demon Deacons’ first victory over the Seminoles since 2011. The Cincinnati, Ohio, native found the back of the net for the first time since Sept. 7 in the 23rd minute before scoring the game-winning goal in the 51st minute to seal the win. Her first strike also broke a 225-minute scoring drought for the Deacs that dated back to their 2-1 victory over Notre Dame on Sept. 29. Feist leads the Deacs with six goals this season.
MacIver played all 110 minutes en route to her sixth solo shutout of the season in a 0-0 double-overtime draw at No. 14 Virginia on Saturday. The Winsford, England, native recorded five saves on a night in which the Cavaliers peppered the Tiger defense with 15 shots for the game. Virginia entered the game averaging 1.22 goals per game at Klöckner Stadium.
No. 3 North Carolina and No. 4 Duke remain in the top five of this week’s Soccer America rankings and lead a contingent of five ACC teams ranked in the Top 25, with four in the Top 10. The other three teams in this week’s poll are No. 8 Wake Forest, No. No. 9 Florida State and No. 14 Virginia.
The United Soccer Coaches will announce its poll later this afternoon.
