GREENSBORO, N.C. – Wake Forest’s Ema Twumasi has been named ACC Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, while Pitt’s Bryce Cregan was tabbed as Defensive Player of the Week.
Twumasi tallied three goals last week to lead the Demon Deacons to a pair of one-goal victories. On Tuesday, he scored the game-winning goal against South Carolina in the 89
th minute for his team leading third game winner of the season. In a top-10 match on Friday against No. 6 Clemson, the sophomore midfielder from Accra, Ghana, scored a pair of go-ahead goals before Wake Forest won 3-2 in double overtime. Twumasi sits tied for the league lead with seven goals on the season.
Cregan played a major role in a historic week for the Panthers, who notched a 7-0 win over rival West Virginia and a 2-1 win over No. 21 Syracuse. On Tuesday, the senior from Dallastown, Pennsylvania, and the Pitt defense limited the Mountaineers to just three shots on goal in what was the first win over West Virginia since 2000 and the largest over the Mountaineers in program history. The win on Friday over the Orange was the first ACC win in program history and first over a ranked opponent since 2008.
