Latsko and McGlynn Earn ACC Women’s Soccer Player of the Week Honors

Latsko posts eight points in win at Pitt; McGlynn makes 11 saves in double overtime draw

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Virginia senior forward Veronica Latsko has been named this week’s ACC Offensive Player of the Week, while Virginia Tech sophomore goalkeeper Mandy McGlynn is this week’s Defensive Player of the Week.

Latsko tied the single-game record at Virginia for points in a match with eight, matching the mark hit twice previously by Makenzy Doniak in 2014 and 2015. The Venetia, Pennsylvania, native recorded the game-winning goal in the 13th minute at Pitt in the Cavaliers 7-0 victory, her first goal of the season, on the way to her first hat trick of the year. It was the second hat trick of her career and first in ACC play. Latsko had an explosive first half with a goal and two assists, and scored the first two goals of the second half on her way to the hat trick.

McGlynn played all 110 minutes en route to her fifth shutout of the season in a 0-0 double-overtime draw with Boston College. The Jacksonville, Florida, native recorded a career-high 11 saves on a night in which the Eagles peppered the Hokie defense with 22 shots for the game. Her 11 saves also rank tied for second on this season’s ACC’s single-game saves lists, and she stands second in the league with 54 saves this season. McGlynn owns 10 career shutouts in just 28 career matches at Virginia Tech.

North Carolina moved up the Soccer America rankings this week to No. 3 following a 7-0 win over Syracuse and leads a contingent of five ACC teams ranked in the Top 25. The other four teams in this week’s poll are No. 4 Duke, No. 6 Florida State, No. 12 Virginia and No. 16 Wake Forest.

The United Soccer Coaches will announce its poll later this afternoon.
