Final ACC Women’s Soccer Players of the Week Announced

NC State’s Tziarra King and Duke’s Chelsea Burns honored

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – NC State sophomore midfielder Tziarra King has been named this week’s ACC Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, while Duke junior defender Chelsea Burns is this week’s ACC Defensive Player of the Week. The awards mark the final weekly ACC honors of the season.

King scored a pair of second half goals in the team’s win against Louisville to clinch the No. 3 seed in the ACC Championship, and help the team earn its highest regular season finish in the ACC since 1995.

In Sunday’s ACC Championship quarterfinal game against Notre Dame, King recorded the first hat trick of her career with all three goals coming in the second half. The win propelled the Wolfpack to the ACC Championship semifinals for the first time since 1995.

Burns played all 90 minutes in both games last week and led a Blue Devil defense that only allowed one goal over the weekend, including posting a 1-0 shutout at No. 10 Virginia on Thursday to clinch the ACC regular season championship. Duke continued its win streak with a 3-1 win against Boston College in the quarterfinals of the ACC Championship to secure a berth in the championship semifinals for the first time since 2011. Burns also contributed on offense as she found the back of the net for the Blue Devils’ first score against Boston College at the 13:01 mark. It was her sixth goal of the season.

No. 2 Duke and No. 3 North Carolina remain in the top five of this week’s Soccer America rankings and lead a contingent of six ACC teams ranked in the Top 25, the most of any league. The other four teams in this week’s poll are No. 11 Virginia, No. 23 Wake Forest, No. 24 Florida State, No. 25 Clemson. The United Soccer Coaches will announce its poll later this afternoon.

The ACC Women’s Soccer Championship continues this weekend with the semifinals and finals being played at MUSC Health Stadium in Charleston, South Carolina. Top seed Duke will face top-fourth seeded Virginia in the first semifinal on Friday, Nov. 3, at 5:30 p.m., while No. 2 North Carolina meets No. 3 NC State in the second semifinal at 8 p.m. Both games will be televised on the league’s Regional Sports Network. The winners will meet Sunday, Nov. 5 at 1 p.m. in the Championship game, which will be broadcast on ESPNU.
