GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Duke redshirt senior guard Lexie Brown has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, while Syracuse freshman forward Digna Strautmane earned ACC Rookie of the Week honors, as announced Monday afternoon by the conference office and voted upon by the Blue Ribbon Panel.
Brown averaged 25.0 points, 7.5 assists, 7.0 steals and 5.5 rebounds, while leading No. 14 Duke to home victories over UNC Greensboro and Winthrop. In Sunday’s contest against Winthrop, Brown tallied a season-high 30 points, six steals, six assists and four rebounds in 29 minutes. Against UNCG, Brown nearly totaled a triple-double with 20 points, nine assists, eight steals and seven rebounds in 33 minutes. On the week, she hit 64.7 percent from the field and 36.4 percent from three-point land. She dished 15 assists to only eight turnovers.
Strautmane averaged 15.0 points and 9.5 rebounds in a 2-0 week for Syracuse. The Riga, Latvia, native had career-outing against Drexel, leading the team in both scoring (19) and rebounds (11) for her the second double-double of her career. She also added four blocked shots in each game and sits tied for 10th in the nation (second in the ACC) in blocked shots with 27 on the season. Strautmane led the charge for the Orange in their come-from-behind victory over Drexel, notching 12 points, eight rebounds and three blocks in the second half.
The ACC’s four teams in the AP Top 25 are holding strong again this week as Notre Dame and Louisville each moved up a spot to No. 2 and No. 3, respectively, while Florida State moved to No. 12 and Duke is No. 14 again this week. Syracuse is receiving votes in the poll.
