Collegiate Baseball Announces Preseason Poll, All-America Teams

Eight ACC teams, 12 players recognized

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Eight Atlantic Coast Conference baseball teams are ranked in Collegiate Baseball Newspaper’s preseason poll, announced Wednesday. Additionally, 12 ACC players were recognized as Collegiate Baseball Preseason All-Americans on Monday, highlighted by Clemson’s Seth Beer who was named the Preseason Player of the Year.
 
The ACC is led in the poll by No. 4 Florida State and No. 7 North Carolina. Clemson is ranked No. 15, followed by No. 16 Virginia, No. 20 Miami, No. 21 Louisville, No. 23 NC State, and No. 29 Georgia Tech. The ACC’s eight teams in the top 30 spots of the poll is the most of any conference.
 
Beer is a two-time All-American and two-time USA Collegiate National Team member who is hitting .333 with 30 doubles, a triple, 34 homers, 123 RBIs, 108 runs and a .506 on-base percentage in 125 games over two seasons as a Tiger. In 2017, Beer was named a second-team All-American by NCBWA after hitting .298 with 16 homers, 53 RBIs and a .478 on-base percentage.
 
Beer is joined on the Collegiate Baseball Preseason All-America First Team by Duke OF Griffin Conine, Florida State LHP/DH Tyler Holton, and Wake Forest 3B Johnny Aiello. The four ACC players on the first team are the most from any conference.
 
Clemson C Chris Williams, Florida State C Cal Raleigh, and Virginia OF Jake McCarthy were named to the second team. Georgia Tech C Joey Bart and 2B Wade Bailey, NC State SS Will Wilson, and Virginia Tech 3B Sam Fragale and UT Tom Stoffel garnered third team accolades.
