Acuna and Miralles Named ACC Men’s Soccer Players of the Week

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Virginia Tech’s Marcelo Acuna has been named ACC Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, while Clemson’s Ximo Miralles was tabbed as Defensive Player of the Week.

Acuna scored three goals on the week to lead the Hokies to a pair of 2-1 wins. On Tuesday, he tallied the opening goal from the penalty spot in a win over Davidson. On Friday, the senior forward from San Jose, Costa Rica, scored both of Virginia Tech’s goals en route to upsetting No. 1 and previously undefeated Notre Dame. Acuna is tied for third in the ACC with six goals on the season. The win was the first for the Hokies over a top-ranked team since 2011.

Miralles posted two clean sheets last week as the Tigers defeated UCLA and Pitt by 3-0 scores. Though the Bruins outshot Clemson 16-12 on Tuesday, Miralles held a UCLA team scoreless that had only been shut out once. Against Pitt on Friday, the junior goalkeeper from Vinaròs, Spain, tallied four saves in his third straight shutout. Miralles now leads the ACC in goals against average (0.53) and save percentage (.840), and is tied for first with Jake Gelnovatch of Louisville for shutouts with four in eight matches.
