GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Louisville junior guard Asia Durr has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, while North Carolina freshman forward Janelle Bailey is this week’s ACC Rookie of the Week, as announced Tuesday afternoon by the conference office and voted upon by the Blue Ribbon Panel.
Durr earned her third ACC Player of the Week honor after scoring a game-high 36 points on 13-of-18 shooting, including an impressive 8-of-10 from 3-point range, in the Cardinals’ 100-67 victory over No. 2 Notre Dame. She got off to a hot start, scoring 11 points in the first quarter, going 4-of-5 from the floor and 3-of-4 from beyond the arc. She also dished out four assists, while pulling down three rebounds in 33 minutes of action. Durr has scored 30-or-more points in four games this season and leads the league in scoring with 21.1 points per game.
North Carolina's Bailey scored a career-high 30 points and 19 rebounds in the Tar Heels' overtime win at Wake Forest. She is the only freshman this season to score 30 or more points, and her 19 boards tied for the most for an ACC player this season. Her 30 points were the most by a Tar Heel freshman since the 2013-14 season, while her 19 rebounds were the highest total by a Tar Heel since 2009. The rookie from Matthews, North Carolina, averaged 20.0 points and 15.0 rebounds in a 2-0 week for the Tar Heels.
This is Bailey’s league-leading fifth ACC Rookie of the Week honor of the season.
The ACC continues to have four teams ranked among the AP Top 25 with Louisville leading the way at No. 2. No. 5 Notre Dame follows, along with No. 12 Florida State and No. 15 Duke. Syracuse and NC State are receiving votes in the poll.
Conference play continues on Thursday, Jan. 18, with seven games, while No. 5 Notre Dame hosts No. 6 Tennessee live on ESPN.
