Asia Durr and Imani Wright Share ACC Player of the Week Honors

North Carolina’s Janelle Bailey earns fourth Rookie of the Week honor of the season

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Louisville junior guard Asia Durr and Florida State red-shirt senior guard Imani Wright have been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Basketball Co-Players of the Week, while North Carolina freshman forward Janelle Bailey earned ACC Rookie of the Week honors, as announced Tuesday afternoon by the conference office and voted upon by the Blue Ribbon Panel.

Durr earned her second ACC Player of the Week honor of the season after averaging 27.5 points, while shooting 48 percent from the floor and 41 percent from 3-pt range, in conference road wins at Georgia Tech and NC State. She scored 38 points in the Cardinals’ ACC-opening win at Georgia Tech on Dec. 28, marking the second highest point total of her career, second to only her program-record 47-point performance against Ohio State.  She had 27 first half points, including 20 in the second quarter to help the Cards turn a nine-point deficit into a 12-point halftime lead. She followed that outing with 18 points, while knocking down three 3-pointers, to help the Cards to a 55-47 win at NC State and a program-best 16-0 start.

Wright averaged 28.5 points in a pair of home wins over Jacksonville and North Carolina. Wright recorded 33 points in the Seminoles’ ACC opener against the Tar Heels, tying for the 14th-most points in a game in FSU history. She recorded career highs in 3-pointers made (8), points and field goals made (11) against UNC. Her eight 3-pointers also set a new FSU single-game record. Wright scored a game-high 24 points against Jacksonville.

Bailey averaged 18.0 points and 7.5 rebounds in only 22.5 minutes per game in a pair of contests for North Carolina. She registered 19 points and 10 rebounds against Mercer, and scored 17 points with five rebounds at No. 13/13 Florida State. Bailey shot a combined 61 percent in the two games en route to earning her fourth ACC Rookie of the Week nod.

The ACC’s four teams in the AP Top 25 are holding strong again this week as Notre Dame and Louisville are ranked No. 2 and No. 3, respectively. Florida State moved to No. 11, and Duke is No. 17. Syracuse, Miami, Georgia Tech, NC State and Virginia Tech are receiving votes in the poll.

Conference play continues on Thursday, Jan. 4, with seven games.
