Arike Ogunbowale Named ACC Player of the Week

Ogunbowale leads Irish comeback against No. 6 Tennessee

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Notre Dame guard Arike Ogunbowale has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, while Syracuse freshman center Amaya Finklea-Guity is this week’s ACC Rookie of the Week, as announced Tuesday afternoon by the conference office and voted upon by the Blue Ribbon Panel.

Ogunbowale spearheaded Notre Dame’s biggest comeback in program history, as the Fighting Irish rallied back from a 23-point deficit to defeat No. 6 Tennessee, 84-70, Thursday at the Joyce Center. Ogunbowale was the difference maker as she tallied 13 points in the fourth quarter, marking her fifth game this season with double-digit points in the final period alone. She finished with a game-high 27 points, eight rebounds, four assists and two steals.

The junior from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, followed that performance up with 23 points, three rebounds, five assists and two steals in a home win over Clemson. Ogunbowale averaged 25.0 points for the week.

Finklea-Guity averaged 12.5 points and 5.5 rebounds in a 1-1 week for the Orange. She contributed 11 points on 5-of-6 shooting from the floor and a career-high three blocks against Miami. She scored 14 points on 6-of-10 shooting, pulled down eight rebounds and registered two assists in Syracuse’s win over Pitt.

The ACC continues to have four teams ranked among the AP Top 25 with Louisville leading the way at No. 4. No. 5 Notre Dame follows, along with No. 8 Florida State and No. 18 Duke. NC State and Virginia are receiving votes in the poll.

Conference play continues on Thursday, Jan. 25, with seven games.
