GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Syracuse’s Tiana Mangakahia has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, while Boston College freshman Milan Bolden-Morris earned ACC Rookie of the Week honors.
The weekly honors were determined by a vote of the ACC Blue Ribbon Panel.
Mangakahia’s 44-point effort led the Orange to an 88-77 victory over Georgia Tech. The Australia native’s 44 points were the second-most points by an Orange player (man or woman) in Carrier Dome history. It ties for third in Division I NCAA for most points in a game this season.
The Syracuse sophomore shot 20-of-21 from the foul line, setting a new program record for made free throws in addition to setting a new career high. She poured in 12 buckets for a new career-high in field goals made as well.
In Sunday’s win over No. 11/12 Florida State, Mangakahia played more of a play-maker role, notching 13 assists for her 11
th game with 10-or-more assists this season. She leads the nation in assists per game and total assists with 10.3 and 164, respectively. Mangakahia averaged a double-double with 24.5 points and 10.5 assists in last week’s two games.
Boston College’s Bolden-Morris shot 50 percent from the floor (6-for-12) and hit four 3s to finish with 18 points and added six rebounds in the Eagles’ win over North Carolina on Friday. It was Boston College’s first ACC win of the season.
Bolden-Morris, a native of Florida, scored 15 of her 18 points in the second half. She hit a three to open the fourth quarter, followed by a mid-range jumper to push the Eagles’ lead to 15 points in the first two minutes. Bolden-Morris is the Eagles’ leading scorer (13.7 ppg.) and is shooting 40 percent from the 3-point line and 42 percent from the field while averaging 4.9 rebounds.
