GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Louisville senior guard Asia Durr has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, while Florida State freshman forward Valenica Myers earned ACC Rookie of the Week honors, as announced Monday afternoon by the conference office and voted upon by the Blue Ribbon Panel.
Durr averaged 28.5 points points in a 2-0 week for the Cardinals that included wins at Western Kentucky (102-80) and at Chattanooga (75-49). She opened her season by scoring the first 11 points for Louisville as it began the game at WKU with an 11-2 lead. She finished with 33 points, which set a school record for points in an opener, on 12-of-21 shooting, 7-of-15 from deep, in just 21 minutes of action. She followed that by scoring 24 points at Chattanooga, 14 of which came during a 30-10 third quarter. She finished 7-of-14 from the floor, 5-of-10 from long distance, with three assists and four rebounds.
Myers averaged 13.3 points, on 53.8 percent shooting from the floor, and 8.7 rebounds as Florida State began the season with three straight wins over Troy (103-67), North Florida (74-53) and Florida (63-56). She led Florida State in field goal percentage and blocked shots (9) in those three wins, including five blocks in her Seminole debut against Troy. She also keyed FSU’s big win over Florida with a personal 6-0 run in the second half to give the Noles the lead for good, while finishing the game with 13 points and eight rebounds.
