NCAA-Record 10 ACC Teams Selected to the 2018 NCAA Women’s Soccer Championship

- Highlighted by two No. 1 seeds, the Atlantic Coast Conference placed an NCAA-record 10 teams in the 2018 NCAA Division I Women’s Soccer Championship field announced Monday.
 
ACC Champion Florida State (15-4-2) and ACC regular-season Champion North Carolina (17-3-1) were each awarded No. 1 seeds, while Virginia (15-4-0) was given a No. 3 seed, and Boston College (14-4-1) and Duke (14-3-2) No. 4 seeds. Along with those five, Clemson (12-8-0), Louisville (12-6-0), NC State (10-6-3), Virginia Tech (9-7-3) and Wake Forest (8-8-1) also earned berths in the field of 64. The ACC’s 10 teams in the NCAA Championship mark the 10th time in the last 12 years at least eight league teams have been selected and breaks the previous NCAA record of nine teams from a single conference the ACC set in 2011 and 2012.
 
First-round matches include North Carolina hosting Southwestern Athletic Conference Champion Howard (12-6-2), Florida State hosting Missouri Valley Champion Loyola Chicago (11-6-1), Virginia hosting MAAC Conference Champion Monmouth (16-3-1), Duke hosting Rutgers (11-3-5), Boston College hosting Colonial Athletic Association Champion Hofstra (14-4-1), Clemson hosting Ole Miss (12-7-1), NC State hosting Northwestern (10-4-4) and Wake Forest hosting Ohio State (9-5-4).
 
Louisville travels to No. 2 seed Tennessee (13-2-3) for its first-round game and Virginia Tech (9-7-3) heads to the Lonestar State to play at No. 4 seed Texas (13-4-3).
 
The Tar Heels will be seeking their 22nd NCAA Championship and 23rd national title overall. North Carolina is the only Division I program that has earned a spot in the NCAA Championship each of the 36 years since its inception in 1982 and owns a 127-13-3 record in the event.
 
The Blue Devils will be making their 24th overall appearance in the NCAA Tournament and look to return to the College Cup for the fourth time since 2011.
 
2014 NCAA Champion Florida State has been part of the tournament every year since 2000 (19 straight appearances) and has reached the College Cup nine times during that run, including five of the past seven seasons.
 
Several other ACC teams will extend notable streaks with this year’s NCAA appearances. Virginia is in the field for the 25th straight year and 31st overall, while Clemson is among the field of 64 for the fifth straight season and 19th time overall.
 
NC State has earned an NCAA Championship berth for the third year in a row and 14th time overall, while Wake Forest was selected for the second straight year and is making its 20th overall appearance. 

Boston College returns to the tournament after a two-year hiatus. The Eagles earned a Championship berth for the 19th time in program history.

Louisville is back in the tournament for the first time since 2013, while Virginia Tech is back after a two-year absence. It is the Hokies’ 10th appearance in the NCAA Championship and the Cardinals’ fifth.
 
All preliminary-round competition will take place at campus sites. First-round games will be played Nov. 9, 10 and 11. Second- and third-round games will be played Friday, Nov. 16 and Sunday, Nov. 18, and Quarterfinal games will be played Nov. 23 or 24.
 
The 37th annual NCAA Women's College Cup will be played Nov. 30 and Dec. 2 at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, North Carolina, with Campbell University and the Town of Cary serving as co-hosts. The first national semifinal will be played and broadcast live on ESPNU at 5 p.m. Eastern time Friday, Nov. 30, followed by the second semifinal beginning at approximately 7:30 p.m. Eastern time live on ESPNU. The national championship match will take place at 1 p.m. Eastern time Sunday, Dec. 2, and will also broadcast live on ESPNU.
