GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – The Atlantic Coast Conference has recognized Indoor Track and Field Performers of the Month following their efforts of the previous two weekends.
Pitt’s Drew Glick, Georgia Tech’s Jeanine Williams and NC State’s Lauren Evans were honored after each posted an event time or mark that ranks among the top two nationally in the early stages of the season.
The ACC Performer of the Month recognizes student-athletes who took part in season-opening meets held the weekends of Nov. 30-Dec. 1 and/or Dec. 7-8. ACC Track and Field Performer of the Week honors will begin following the resumption of the Indoor season on Jan. 11 and will continue weekly through the end of the Outdoor regular season.
Pitt’s Glick was named the ACC Men’s Track Performer of the Month after posting an NCAA Division I-leading time of 1:50.88 in the 800 meters at last Friday’s Youngstown State Icebreaker. The Washington, D.C., junior was pushed by fellow Panther Dante’ Watson, who placed second in the 43-man race.
After winning the ACC gold medal and earning Indoor and Outdoor All-America honors as a junior last season, Georgia Tech’s Williams took up where she left off with a nation-leading time of 8.25 in the 60-meter hurdles at the BCS Icebreaker held Nov. 30 at the Birmingham Crossplex Indoor Arena. The Kingston, Jamaica hurdler, who also placed a leading time of 8.40 in the preliminaries, is the ACC Women’s Track Performer of the Month.
NC State’s Evans earned ACC Women’s Field Performer of the Month accolades after earning four gold medals – first place in the shot put and weight throw at both the JDL College Kickoff (Dec. 1) and Clemson Opener (Dec. 8) – and ranking among the nation’s top six in each event. The Fayetteville, North Carolina, senior set the NC State women’s indoor record in the shot put at the Clemson Opener with a mark of 55-0.75 (16.78), which currently ranks second in the nation. Her weight throw of 68-11.25 (21.01m) at the JDL College Kick-Off was a career best and ranks sixth nationally.
