GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Notre Dame senior guard Arike Ogunbowale has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, while Georgia Tech freshman guard Elizabeth Balogun repeats as ACC Rookie of the Week, as announced Sunday afternoon by the conference office and voted upon by the Blue Ribbon Panel.
Ogunbowale averaged 24.0 points in a 2-0 week for the Fighting Irish, which included an 87-63 win at No. 19 Marquette on Saturday. She scored a game-high 32 points against the Golden Eagles marking her ACC-leading fourth 30-point performance of the season. The Milwaukee, Wisconsin, native scored the first 11 points of the third quarter before finishing with 15 for the quarter. She also added three assists and two steals for the game.
Balogun helped Georgia Tech to a 1-1 showing in the West Palm Beach Invitational as the freshman averaged 21.5 points per game. She opened the week with an explosive performance against Seton Hall on Thursday, dropping a game- and career-high 30 points. Balogun was 12-for-21 from the field, marking a personal-best in field goals, and registered a season-high four blocks against the Pirates.
She followed up Thursday’s performance with 13 points against Dayton for her ninth game scoring in double-figures this season.
