Duke’s Dorsey Named ACC Women’s Soccer Scholar-Athlete of the Year

All-ACC Academic Women’s Soccer Team named

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Duke senior forward Imani Dorsey has been named the 2017 Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Soccer Scholar-Athlete of the Year and heads up the sport’s All-ACC Academic Team, as announced Thursday by the league office.

Dorsey, a senior pursuing a bachelor’s degree in environmental science, is a three-time All-ACC Academic honoree. The 2017 ACC Offensive Player of Year and two-time All-ACC selection also collected First-Team United Soccer Coaches All-America honors, United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-America Team honors, and was a CoSIDA Academic Second Team All-American. In 2017 she helped lead the Blue Devils to a 23-2-1 overall and perfect 10-0-0 league mark and a trip to the NCAA Women’s College Cup.

The 2017 All-ACC Academic Team includes four student-athletes that earned United Soccer Coaches All-America honors in 2017, while five members of the ACC All-Academic Team were named to either 2017 Capital One Academic All-America Team or the United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-America Team. The All-ACC Academic Team also includes 28 players that were named to the first, second or third All-ACC Team and four members of the ACC All-Freshman Team.

Notably, Florida State’s Emma Koivisto earned her fourth All-ACC Academic Team honor, while Sam Staab (Clemson), EJ Proctor (Duke), Kaycie Tillman (Florida State),  Maddie Huster (Wake Forest) and Dorsey collected the third of their careers.

The ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards were established in September of 2007 to be awarded annually to the top junior or senior student-athlete in their respective sports. Candidates for the awards must have maintained a 3.0 grade point average for their careers, as well as a 3.0 for each of the last two semesters.

Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one’s academic career. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.

The ACC Honor Roll, which recognizes all conference student-athletes with a grade point average of 3.0 for the current academic year, will be released in July.
