Wilson and Roberts Earn ACC Weekly Honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – NC State’s Will Wilson has been voted the ACC Baseball Player of the Week, while Wake Forest’s Griffin Roberts was selected Pitcher of the Week.

ACC weekly honors are determined by a vote of a select media panel. This is the third weekly award of the season for Roberts and the second for Wilson.

Wilson helped lead NC State to a 3-1 record last week, hitting .316 with eight RBI, six runs and three homers. Defensively, he had nine assists and seven putouts without an error. The sophomore shortstop from Kings Mountain, North Carolina had his second career multi-homer game in the series finale against Notre Dame to clinch the series, the ninth straight series win in conference play for the Wolfpack. He also homered in Wednesday’s game at UNCW, as his three-run blast extended the Wolfpack’s lead from 3-1 to 6-1. Wilson now has 10 home runs for the season, which is tied for third in the ACC, and six of them have come against conference opponents, tying for the most by an individual in conference play.

Roberts struck out 11 batters and only allowed one hit and one walk in 8.0 innings in a 3-0 win at Boston College on Friday. The junior from Midlothian, Virginia has struck out at least eight batters in all nine of his starts this year, and has punched out at least 10 batters six times. Roberts leads the ACC and ranks second nationally with 90 strikeouts on the season.
