2018 All-ACC Women’s Lacrosse Team Announced

Boston College, North Carolina each place six on squad

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Second-ranked Boston College and fifth-ranked North Carolina lead the way with six student-athletes each on the 2018 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Lacrosse Team as voted upon by the league’s head coaches and announced on Thursday.
 
Virginia had five players chosen to the team, while four each were selected from Virginia Tech and Duke. Three were chosen from Notre Dame, and Louisville and Syracuse rounded out the two-team, 32-member squad with two selections each.
 
Boston College, which will carry perfect 17-0 record into this week’s ACC Women’s Lacrosse Championship, matched Virginia Tech for the most first-team selections with four. North Carolina and Virginia each had three first-team selections.
 
Junior classmates Sam Apuzzo, a two-time All-ACC First Team honoree, and Dempsey Arsenault – who rank first and second among ACC scorers, lead the Boston College contingent. They are joined by teammates Kaileen Hart and Elizabeth Miller on the first team, while Hannah Hyatt and Lauren Daly were second-team selections.
 
Three-time All-ACC First Team selection Marie McCool, along with teammates Katie Hoeg and Charlotte Sofield earned first-team honors, while Tar Heel seniors Ela Hazar and Maggie Bill join junior Kara Klages on the second team.
 
Seniors Tristan McGinley, Kelly Glatthorn and Meagh Graham join freshman Paige Petty to form Virginia Tech’s quartet of first-teamers. Other first-team selections include Virginia’s Avery Shoemaker, Kasey Behr and Sammy Mueller, Notre Dame’s Samantha Giacolone and Syracuse’s Emily Hawryschuk.
 
BC’s Apuzzo (5.82 points per game) and Arsenault (4.24), and North Carolina’s Hoeg (4.20) and McCool (3.93) and Hazar (3.87) will enter the ACC Championship as the league’s top five scorers.
 
Apuzzo leads the conference in scoring with 4.0 goals per game, followed by North Carolina’s McCool and second-team selection Charlotte North of Duke with 3.2 apiece. North Carolina’s Hazar leads in assists with 2.4 per game, followed by Hoeg at 2.07.
 
Second-team selection Olivia Jenner of Duke leads the ACC in draw controls with 8.47 per game. Virginia’s Mueller leads in shots per game (7.35) and is tied for seventh in scoring (3.65 points per game).
 
The ACC Attacker, Midfielder, Defender, Freshman and Coach of the Year will be announced following the ACC Women’s Lacrosse Championship.
 
The 2018 ACC Women’s Lacrosse Championship will take place this weekend at Koskinen Stadium on the campus of Duke University. Quarterfinal action begins on Thursday at 11 a.m. with No. 1 seed Boston College taking on No. 8 seed Louisville. No. 4 Virginia versus No. 5 Notre Dame follows at 2 p.m. No. 2 North Carolina and No. 7 Syracuse will meet at 5 p.m., and No. 3 Virginia Tech and No. 6 Duke will play in the nightcap at 8 p.m. Friday’s semifinals are set for 5 p.m. and 8 p.m., while Sunday’s title game is at 1 p.m.
 
All seven games of the ACC Women’s Lacrosse Championship will air on the ACC’s Regional Sports Networks and will be available on ACC Network Extra and the Fox Sports Go app.
 
Seven ACC teams rank among the IWLCA poll with Boston College at No. 2, North Carolina at No. 5, Virginia Tech at No. 12, Virginia at No. 15, Syracuse at No. 16, Duke at No. 22 and Notre Dame at No. 23. Five are ranked this week by Inside Lacrosse with Boston College at No. 2 and North Carolina at No. 5, followed by No. 12 Virginia Tech, No. 19 Syracuse and No. 20 Virginia.
