Wilson and Thomas Earn ACC Weekly Honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – NC State’s Will Wilson has been voted the ACC Baseball Player of the Week, while Georgia Tech’s Connor Thomas was selected Pitcher of the Week.

ACC weekly honors are determined by a vote of a select media panel. This is the third award for Wilson this year and second for Thomas.

Wilson turned in an outstanding week at the plate to lead NC State to a perfect 5-0 record, highlighted by its second ACC sweep. The sophomore shortstop from Kings Mountain, North Carolina, recorded a .550 batting average with 11 hits during the week to go along with 12 RBI, both of which are career highs for Wilson in a single week. He tallied at least two hits in four of the five games and hit a home run in the only game that he didn’t have multiple hits. He logged four RBI in the second game against James Madison and four on Friday against Wake Forest to register eight RBI over a two-game stretch. Wilson compiled a slugging percentage of .900 for the week and also had a .542 on-base percentage. He had five assists and two putouts defensively and did not commit an error.

Thomas recorded his third complete-game win of the season, going the distance in a 5-1 road win at Virginia on Saturday. Thomas, who registered his 100th strikeout of the season in the win, allowed one unearned run on six hits, no walks and seven strikeouts in the complete-game win. The left-hander, who leads the ACC in complete games and innings pitched this season, did not walk a batter in a game for the sixth time this season, while all six base hits he allowed were singles. The sophomore from Omega, Georgia, pitched around three Tech errors to strand 10 UVA runners. He leads the ACC in strikeout-per-walk ratio, walks-per-nine innings and WHIP on the year. He has not lost a start since March 23, going 4-0 over his last seven starts and left the game with the lead in his three no-decisions over that span.
