ACC Leads All Conferences with Six First-Round Selections in 2018 NBA Draft

Greensboro, N.C. (theACC.com) -- Led by Duke’s Marvin Bagley III, the second overall selection by the Sacramento Kings, the ACC led all conferences with six first-round selections in the 2018 NBA Draft.
 
The ACC also led all conferences with 10 overall selections, followed by the Big Ten (8), Pac-12 (7), SEC (7), Big 12 (6), Big East (5), American Athletic (4), Atlantic 10 (1), Missouri Valley (1), Mountain West (1) and Sun Belt (1).
 
The ACC is the only conference to have had at least four first round picks in each of the past 10 NBA Drafts (2009-2018). The ACC now has had at least six different schools with at least one player selected in each of the last five drafts and six times in the last nine years.
 
The ACC extended its streak of having at least one first-round selection to 30 consecutive years (1989-2018).
 
Over the last five years (2014-2018), the ACC leads all conferences with 32 first-round selections. The Pac-12 is second with 23, followed by the SEC (21), Big Ten (17), Big 12 (12) and the Big East (8).
 
The ACC accounted for 10 of the first 47 college players (21 percent) selected in the 2018 draft. Over the past 13 years (2006-2018), the ACC has accounted for 20 percent (79 of 398) of all college players selected in the first round.
 
With three lottery picks, the ACC has had 22 top 14 selections over the last nine years and since 1996 leads all conferences with 47 lottery selections. The SEC is second with 39, followed by the Big 12 (37), the Big East and Pac-12 (35 each) and the Big Ten (22).

Duke has now had a player drafted in the top three overall in each of the past five NBA drafts … only the second player in ACC history to be chosen as the league’s Player and Rookie of the Year in the same season … a unanimous first-team All-American and the NABC National Freshman of the Year, Bagley led the ACC in scoring (21.0), rebounding (11.1) and field goal percentage (.614).
 
Wendell Carter Jr., Forward, Duke
1st Round/7th Overall by the Chicago Bulls
Duke has now had two players selected in the top 10 three times … a second-team All-ACC selection and an All-ACC Freshman team member … finished third in the league in double-doubles (16) and fourth in rebounds (9.1) … shot .561 from the floor, averaged 13.5 points per game and was sixth in the ACC in blocked shots (2.1).
 
Jerome Robinson, Guard, Boston College
1st Round/13th Overall by the Los Angeles Clippers
Robinson becomes Boston College's first-ever lottery pick, selected among the first 14 picks of the NBA Draft … a first-team All-ACC and finished second to Duke’s Marvin Bagley III in ACC Player of the Year balloting ... was second in the ACC in scoring (20.7), third in 3-point field goal percentage (.409) and eighth in field goal percentage (.485), and his 725 points were the second-best single-season scoring total in school history.
 
Lonnie Walker IV, Guard, Miami
1st Round/18th Overall by the San Antonio Spurs
Fifth Miami player selected in the first round and the first since Shane Larkin in 2013 … honorable mention All-ACC and a ACC All-Freshman selection after leading the Hurricanes in scoring as a freshman (11.5) … averaged 13.6 point per game in league play … scored in double figures in six of his last seven games and in 14 of his last 17.
 
Josh Okogie, Guard, Georgia Tech
1st Round/20th Overall by the Minnesota Timberwolves
The 19th Yellow Jacket selected in the first round and the first since Iman Shumpert in 2011 … third-team All-ACC despite missing the season’s first eight games … averaged 18.2 points, 6.3 rebounds and 2.5 assists … had 11 20-point games.
 
Grayson Allen, Guard, Duke
1st Round/21st Overall by the Utah Jazz
Third Duke player selected in the first round … the Blue Devils have had three or more first-round selections in three of the last four years … third-team All-ACC … second on the team in scoring (14.0) … second in the ACC in 3-point field goals per game (2.8) and fourth in free throw percentage (.850) … finished his career ranked 12th at Duke with 1,996 career points.
 
Gary Trent Jr., Guard, Duke
2nd Round/37th Overall by the Sacramento Kings
Fourth Duke player selected … reached double-figure in points in 23 of his final 27 games … averaged 14.5 points and 4.2 rebounds while starting all 37 games for the Blue Devils … third in the ACC in 3-point field goals per game (2.6) and fourth in 3-point field goal percentage (.402).
 
Bruce Brown Jr., Miami
2nd Round/42nd Overall by the Detroit Pistons
Led the team in rebounds (7.1) and assists (4.0) and was one of three Hurricanes to average in double figures (11.4) … started each of Miami’s first 19 games before suffering a foot injury … had 25 steals and 15 steals.
 
Devon Hall, Guard, Virginia
2nd Round/53rd Overall by the Oklahoma City Thunder
The fifth Virginia player selected in the NBA Draft since 2012 … second-team All-ACC as a senior after averaging a career-high 11.7 points per game … named to the ACC All-Defensive team … averaged 4.2 rebounds and 3.1 assists … second in the ACC in assists-to-turnover ratio (3.06:1).

Ray Spalding, Forward, Louisville
2nd Round/56th Overall by the Philadelphia 76ers
Honorable mention All-ACC as a sophomore in 2018 … was sixth in the ACC in rebounds (8.7) and ninth in blocked shots (1.7) … started 34 games, averaged 12.3 points per game and shot .543 from the floor.
