All-Access basketball special takes viewers behind the scenes at 2018 New York Life ACC Tournament
GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – The Atlantic Coast Conference and Brooklyn’s Barclays Center teamed up for the second time in early March for the New York Life ACC Tournament. Basketball fans now have a chance to re-live some of the most memorable moments and get a first-hand look at what went on behind the scenes.
“Big City, Bright Lights: The 2018 New York Life ACC Tournament” documents this year’s Big Apple experience. The hour-long special takes viewers behind the scenes of a tournament that radiated with its usual high intensity and broke two of its own venue attendance records for college basketball before Virginia outlasted North Carolina in the Saturday night championship game.
The program debuts on ESPNU on Tuesday, June 5 at 5 p.m.
DDC International, in collaboration with ACC Advanced Media, takes the viewer ”backstage” into the locker room, outside into the team hallways and into postgame press conferences. The “ACC Confessional” provides immediate reaction from coaches and players at the games’ conclusions. One feels the intensity of competition on the court and the flavor of the New York backdrop in this visually stunning production.
With the help of narration by former Virginia standout and current television commentator Cory Alexander,
“Big City, Bright Lights” goes beyond the on-court action for the human-interest stories, such as star center Ben Lammers balancing ACC basketball and Mechanical Engineering at Georgia Tech, and Florida State’s Terance Mann’s community outreach efforts in Tallahassee. Highlights also include father/son connections at Syracuse between assistant coach Adrian Autry Sr. and walk-on Adrian Autry Jr. and Wake Forest with Associate Head Coach Randolph Childress and Brandon Childress, a look at the journey of 7’ center Anas Mahmoud from Egypt to Louisville and how Clemson’s Gabe DeVoe went from man on the bench to team scoring leader.
It all makes for a well-told story of the event has set the gold standard for college basketball tournaments for more than six decades.
