ACC Has a Record 76 Rowers Chosen CRCA Scholar-Athletes

Tops previous record of 70 set in 2016; North Carolina leads with 15
 
GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com)—A record total of 76 Atlantic Coast Conference Rowers were honored by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association as 2018 Scholar-Athletes, the CRCA announced Wednesday.
 
            To be eligible to be honored as a CRCA Scholar-Athlete, the student-athlete must:
  1. Have met all eligibility rules as defined by her institution
  2. Have rowed in her institution’s NCAA or IRA eligible boat(s) for a minimum of 75% of the current spring races or racing in a regional conference.
  3. And have had a 3.5 cumulative GPA or higher for her career (through the fall semester/quarter for the current competition year).
 
North Carolina leads all ACC schools with 15 honorees, followed by Louisville with 13. Notre Dame and Syracuse each had 10 rowers honored, followed by Clemson with eight, Boston College with six, Miami and Duke with five each and Virginia with four.
 
A total of 15 rowers were honored for the third time in their careers, including Elizabeth McKernan of Boston College; Jenny D’Anthony, Sarah Decker and Emily Radziwon of Clemson;  Rebecca Busk, Callie McGowan, Rachel Schmetzer, Sophie Schulz, Kim Streetz and Allison Zimmermann of Louisville; Taegan Lynch of Miami; Reilly Kearney and Treasa O’Tighearnaigh of Notre Dame; and Haley Jones and Christina Tobias of Syracuse.
 
Thirty rowers were honored for the second consecutive year. In addition to the 15 three-time honorees, the following earned their second straight CRCA Scholar-Athlete recognition in Jacqueline McDonnell of Boston College; Amelia Shein of Clemson; Rhea Bergman and Shannon Tierney of Duke; Abbi Fitts of Louisville; Alexa Aguilar and Lily Wittle of Miami; Morgan Donnelly and Kathryn Johnson of North Carolina; Kelly Fischer and Lauren Saunee of Notre Dame; and Christine Habjan, Arianna Lee, Zoe Preston and Sydney Rodriguez of Syracuse.
