ACC Women’s Soccer Players of the Week Announced

NC State’s Rankin and Duke’s Heinsohn earn ACC weekly honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – NC State junior forward Kia Rankin has been named this week’s Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, while Duke redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Brooke Heinsohn is this week’s ACC Defensive Player of the Week.

Rankin totaled five points on two goals and an assist in the Wolfpack’s 1-0-1 week, highlighted by a 2-1 win over No. 10 South Carolina. Rankin factored in both NC State goals in the upset win on Sunday. She found teammate Tziarra King at the 49:17 mark for the first goal of the game before scoring what turned out to be the game winner in the 63rd minute. Rankin also found the back of the net in a 1-1 draw against ECU in her first game since returning from an injury.

Heinsohn posted back-to-back shutouts in a 0-0 draw with No. 15 Georgetown and a 3-0 win against Elon. The red-shirt sophomore keeper posted a career-high 10 saves against the Hoyas, and made three saves against the Phoenix. Heinsohn owns a 0.47 goals against average through the first four games of the season.

ACC women’s soccer action continues on Wednesday, Aug. 29, while Thursday’s slate features eight matches.
