GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – North Carolina sophomore forward Giovanni Montesdeoca has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, while NC State sophomore goalkeeper Leon Krapf is this week’s ACC Defensive Player of the Week.
Montesdeoca scored the game winner in the 106th minute to give North Carolina a 1-0 victory at No. 8 Notre Dame on Friday. The Dallas, Texas, native found himself one-on-one with Irish keeper Ryan Krutz after Aguilera played the ball through the Notre Dame defense. Montesdeoca chipped the ball over the keeper into the back post to net his third goal of the 2018 campaign.
Krapf made three saves while facing eight shots in the Wolfpack’s 1-0 win over No. 14/25 Virginia Tech on Friday. Krapf was tested twice in the first half, stopping shots by Jakob Bluemler in the 10th and 40th minutes. He made his third save of the game in the 84th minute. The shutout was his fourth of the season.
ACC men’s soccer teams will play non-conference matches on Monday and Tuesday before a full slate of league matches on Friday.
