ACC Men’s Soccer Players of the Week Announced

NC State’s Gabriel Machado and Notre Dame’s Patrick Berneski earn this week’s honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – NC State junior midfielder Gabriel Machado has been named this week’s Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, while Notre Dame graduate student defender Patrick Berneski is this week’s ACC Defensive Player of the Week.

Machado scored both game-winning goals in NC State’s 2-0 week that was highlighted by a 2-0 win at No. 4/7 Akron on Aug. 27. In his first start of the season, the Sao Paulo, Brazil, native found the back of the net early in the first half at 13:58 mark against the Zips. The Wolfpack tacked on another first-half goal to earn NC State's third victory over a top-five foe since second-year head coach George Kiefer took over prior to the 2017 season. Machado also scored NC State’s first goal in the 54th minute in its 2-0 win over Presbyterian on Aug. 31.

Berneski was named the Adidas/IU Credit Union Classic Most Outstanding Defensive Player after leading the Irish to back-to-back shutouts against No. 18 UConn (3-0) and No. 22 Dartmouth (2-0). The senior captain scored a goal in both games while anchoring the Notre Dame defense which held the Huskies to just two shots total and the Big Green to five for the game. The Irish did not allow a single shot on target in Sunday's victory over Dartmouth.

ACC men’s soccer teams are back in action tonight with four games on the docket including Virginia playing Maryland at Audi Field in Washington, D.C.
