ACC Women’s Soccer Players of the Week Announced

Florida State’s Yujie Zhao and Wake Forest’s Nonie Frishette earn ACC weekly honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Florida State freshman midfielder Yujie Zhao has been named this week’s Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, while Wake Forest senior goalkeeper Nonie Frishette is this week’s ACC Defensive Player of the Week.

Zhao directed the Seminole offense against a pair of Top 10 foes in No. 7/5 USC and No. 2/2 UCLA last weekend. The Shanghai, China, native shined in Florida State’s 4-1 win over the Bruins, factoring in three of the four Seminole goals. She scored a goal and assisted on two others as the Noles handed UCLA its worst defeat since 2015. Against the Trojans, the freshman created numerous opportunities in the midfield to help FSU control possession and outshoot the Trojans 18-6, holding USC to just four shots in regulation, which was its lowest since the USC played Florida State to open the 2015 season.

Frishette recorded two solo shutouts this past weekend in a 2-0 week for the Demon Deacons, highlighted by a 1-0 win over No. 5/7 Penn State. She totaled 16 saves in the two wins, including a career-high 12 saves against the Nittany Lions to mark the highest single-game save total by a Wake Forest keeper in at least 20 years.

ACC women’s soccer action continues on Thursday, Sept. 6 with nine matches.
