GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) –Miami redshirt junior forward Beatrice Mompremier has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, while Georgia Tech freshman guard Elizabeth Balogun is this week’s ACC Freshman of the Week announced Monday by the conference office and voted upon by the Blue Ribbon Panel.
Mompremier averaged 17.0 points and 13.5 rebounds, while shooting 47.8 percent from the floor and logging two double-doubles in a 2-0 week for the Hurricanes with wins over Duke and North Carolina. She led all players with 16 points and 17 rebounds at Duke to give the Miami its first-ever victory at Cameron Indoor Stadium. She followed that performance with 18 points and 10 rebounds against the Tar Heels for her fifth straight double-double and 14th of the season. It is her second ACC Player of the Week honor of the season.
Balogun paced Georgia Tech’s offense in a 1-1 week in conference play, averaging 21.5 points. The freshman knocked down a career-high six 3-pointers at Clemson to open the week, leading the Jackets with 23 points against the Tigers. She followed with a 20-point performance against No. 12 Syracuse at home on Sunday. Balogun hit four 3-pointers, pulled down seven rebounds and blocked a career-high six shots to help the Jackets upset the 12th-ranked Orange. This is her ACC-leading fourth Freshman of the Week honor of the season.
