2018 All-ACC Academic Volleyball Team Announced

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Thirty-four Atlantic Coast Conference student-athletes were selected to the 2018 All-ACC Academic Volleyball Team, headlined by Syracuse’s Santita Ebangwese, the 2018 ACC Volleyball Scholar-Athlete of the Year, as announced today by the league office.

Ebangwese, a senior majoring in bioengineering from Rochester, New York, was also a Senior CLASS Award Finalist and Google Cloud CoSIDA Third Team Academic All-American. The four-time All-ACC Academic honoree is minoring in French, a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars and has made multiple dean’s list and AD Honor Rolls. Ebangwese earned AVCA All-America Honorable Mention honors, AVCA East All-Region honors and led the nation in hitting percentage.

In addition to Ebangwese, 23 other All-ACC honorees made the All-ACC Academic Volleyball Team.

The 2018 All-ACC Academic Volleyball Team has 34 honorees, with 12 institutions represented. Louisville led the league with six selections, followed by four for Notre Dame, Pitt and Virginia Tech. Syracuse had three honorees, while Duke, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Miami, NC State and Virginia each had two, and Clemson had one selection.
Louisville’s Molly Sauer, Miami’s Haley Templeton, Notre Dame’s Ryann DeJarld and Jemma Yeadon and Pitt's Stephanie Williams received All-ACC Academic honors for the third time in their careers, while six other student-athletes earned the recognition for the second time in their careers.

The ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards were established in September of 2007 to be awarded annually to the top junior or senior student-athlete in their respective sports. Candidates for the awards must have maintained a 3.0 grade point average for their careers, as well as a 3.0 for each of the last two semesters.

Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one’s academic career. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the team.

The ACC Honor Roll, which recognizes all conference student-athletes with a grade point average of 3.0 for the current academic year, will be released in July.
