GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – The Atlantic Coast Conference today recognized the following student-athletes as ACC Cross Country Performers of the Week for October 9.
ACC Men’s Performer of the Week – Yared Nuguse, Notre Dame, Jr., Louisville, Ky.
Running in a stellar field that included 12 nationally-ranked teams (including the three among the top 10), Nuguse led all ACC runners with a sixth-place individual finish at the Joe Piane Invitational hosted by Notre Dame. Nuguse ran the five-mile course in 23:28.10 to lead the No. 9 Fighting Irish’s fifth-place team showing. In addition to posting his highest ever finish the meet, Nuguse recorded a 43-second PR on the cross country layout at Notre Dame’s Burke Golf Course.
ACC Women’s Performer of the Week – Anna Rohrer, Notre Dame, Gr., Mishawaka, Ind.
In the final home meet of her Irish career, Rohrer led No. 12 Notre Dame with a sixth-place finish at the Joe Piane Invitational. Rohrer was the highest ACC finisher at the meet with her time of 16:24.71 on her home 5K course. Eleven of the 24 teams in the women’s field were ranked nationally, including five among the top 10.
ACC Men’s Freshman of the Week – Isaac Kiprop, Louisville, Fr., Eldoret, Kenya
Kiprop was the third finisher for the Cardinals in the Louisville Cross Country Classic and the 12th overall runner in the 41-team field. The two-time ACC Freshman of the Week turned in his second top 15-time, clocking in at 24:00.2 on the 8K course for a season best. His average kilometer time was 3:00.0.
ACC Women’s Freshman of the Week – Kelsey Chmiel, NC State, Fr., Saratoga Springs, N.Y.
Chmiel earned her second ACC Freshman of the Week honor after posting a career-best 5K time of 16:36.91 and placing 15th overall in the strong Joe Piane Invitational field. Chmiel was the second-highest freshman finisher on the women’s side after Melany Smart of Washington (fourth place). She teamed with senior Elly Henes (ninth place) to key the Wolfpack’s fourth-place team finish, second among ACC teams behind Florida State’s third-place showing.
