GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Duke’s Haley Gorecki and Miami’s Beatrice Mompremier have been named Atlantic Coast Conference Co-Players of the Week after both tallied career highs in scoring, and Virginia’s Kylie Kornegay-Lucas is the ACC Freshman of the Week.
ACC women’s basketball weekly awards are voted on by the league’s Blue Ribbon Panel.
Gorecki averaged 26.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 2.5 steals and 1.5 blocked shots last week to lift Duke to a pair of wins. The graduate student hit on 13-of-26 shots from the floor and made 23-of-25 free throws.
She tallied her first double-double of the season with 23 points, 13 rebounds, five assists, three steals and two blocked shots in Sunday’s win against Troy. The Palatine, Illinois, native opened the week with a career-high 30 points in the Blue Devil’s win versus Idaho State.
Mompremier put together a career performance in Miami’s game against No. 19 DePaul, as she poured in a career-high 31 points in the championship game of the Maggie Dixon Classic. Additionally, the senior forward grabbed 18 rebounds, the most by any ACC player this season, to notch her third double-double of the year.
Her 31 points were the most for a Miami player since 2015. The Miami native was also impressive against N.C. A&T, scoring 18 points on 7-of-11 shooting with eight rebounds. For the week, Mompremier averaged 24.5 points and 13 rebounds per game.
Hailing from Camden, Delaware, Kornegay-Lucas had a breakout performance in Virginia’s overtime win on Sunday against Old Dominion. She scored a career-best 31 points on 10-of-18 shooting and added 12 rebounds to log her first career double-double.
The freshman guard helped seal the win for the Cavaliers, as she stole the ODU inbounds pass with three seconds remaining in overtime. Her 31 points are the most by an ACC freshman this year and tied for the most by any ACC player in a single game.
