FSU’s Castellanos, NC State’s Guttenberger Earn ACC Player of the Week Honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Florida State senior midfielder Deyna Castellanos has been named Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, while NC State defender Lulu Guttenberger has been tabbed ACC Defensive Player of the Week.

Castellanos scored a pair of goals and also had an assist during a 2-0 week for the Seminoles, moving into second all-time at Florida State with 114 career points. She recorded her FSU career-tying 19th game-winning goal last Thursday against No. 9 Duke with a strike from 30 yards out into the top left corner for the game’s only goal.

In the ACC Quarterfinal against No. 22 Clemson, the Maracay, Venezuela, native recorded both a goal and an assist. She curled a corner kick inside the back post for the game's first goal and then made a perfect cross to Jaelin Howell who headed it into the back of the net to give the Seminoles a 2-1 win.

Guttenberger was an essential part of the back line in NC State's 1-0 upset at No. 14 Louisville in the regular season finale to earn a spot in the ACC Championship. In the ACC Championship quarterfinal, she curled in the corner kick that led to an own goal to give the Wolfpack its second win of the week against the Cardinals on their home field.

Hailing from Velburg, Germany, she also forced a Louisville turnover on a corner kick in overtime, which eventually led to Tziarra King's golden goal to send the Wolfpack to its second semifinal appearance in three years. Guttenberger played all 90 minutes last Thursday and 96 minutes in Sunday’s overtime match at center back.
