GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – NC State sophomore center Elissa Cunane has been named Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, and Notre Dame’s Sam Brunelle is the ACC Freshman of the Week.
ACC women’s basketball weekly awards are voted on by the league’s Blue Ribbon Panel.
Cunane posted her sixth double-double of the season with a career-high 28 points to go along with 16 rebounds in the Wolfpack’s 62-49 win against Elon on Sunday. She shot 9-of-15 from the floor and tacked on 10 points from the charity stripe in her fourth consecutive double-double performance.
The Summerfield, North Carolina, native has now scored 20 or more points in three games this season and is leading NC State in scoring, averaging 16.2 points per game.
Brunelle scored a career-high 31 points in Notre Dame’s battle with No. 17 DePaul last Wednesday. The freshman forward had 17 points at halftime, just two shy of her previous career best. She was 13-of-18 from the floor for the game, connecting on a 3-pointer and four free throws.
Hailing from Ruckersville, Virginia, Brunelle also grabbed seven rebounds with two assists and a block. She’s averaging 14.5 points per game this season to go along with 6.6 rebounds per game.
