GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Virginia junior Jordan Scott, who set an Atlantic Coast Conference record in the men’s triple jump during last weekend’s competition, headlines the ACC Performers of the Week for February 13.
Scott, the ACC Men’s Field Performer of the week is joined by Virginia teammate Bridget Guy (Women’s Field Performer of the Week), NC State’s Cravont Charleston (Men’s Track Performer of the Week), and Miami’s Tiara McMinn and Virginia Tech’s Rachel Pocratsky (Women’s Track Co-Performers of the Week).
The ACC weekly honor is the second of the season for Charleston, while Scott, Guy, McMinn and Pocratsky were each recognized for the first time in 2018-19.
A glance at this week’s honorees, each of whom currently holds times are marks in their respective events that rank among the nation’s top seven:
ACC Men’s Field Performer of the Week
Jordan Scott, Jr., Virginia
Scott leapt into the ACC and school record books at the Clemson Tiger Paw Invitational with his mark of 16.90m (55-5.5), which currently ranks second nationally. The Portmore, Jamaica, native actually set a new conference and school record on his first attempt by clearing 16.87m, and then topped that mark on his fourth attempt. Scott broke the previous ACC mark of 16.72m/54-10.25, set just two weeks earlier by Florida State’s Armani Wallace.
ACC Men’s Track Performer of the Week
Cravont Charleston, Jr., NC State
Charleston outran his own school record for a gold-medal finish in the men's 60m dash at the Tiger Paw Invitational with a time of 6.54. The Charlotte, North Carolina, native, who has bested his own 60m dash school record twice this year, beat out the 6.56 he clocked earlier this season. His current time ranks second nationally.
ACC Women’s Field Performer of the Week
Bridget Guy, Sr., Virginia
Guy established yet another Virginia school record in the women’s pole vault and finished first at the Tiger Paw Invite, clearing a height of 4.38m (14-4.5) with her first attempt. In addition to topping her own school record for the third consecutive meet, the Greensburg, Pennsylvania, native tied for the seventh-best vault nationally this season.
ACC Women’s Co-Track Performer of the Week
Tiara McMinn, So., Miami
For the second consecutive meet, McMinn smashed her personal best mark in the 60m hurdles, boasting the nation’s sixth fastest time at 8.06 seconds. McMinn shed .11 seconds off her previous best mark one week earlier to win her third 60m hurdles event of the indoor season. Her time ranks as the fastest 60m hurdles in the ACC this season and is the third fastest in program history.
ACC Women’s Co-Track Performer of the Week
Rachel Pocratsky, Sr., Virginia Tech
Pocratsky earned her third gold medal of the season with her time of 2:05.2 in the 800 meters at the Iowa State Classic. The Gaithersburg, Maryland, senior’s effort currently stands as the seventh-fastest in the nation and the fastest in the ACC. Pocratsky placed first among a field of 59 runners.
