GREENSBORO, N.C. – North Carolina senior Paris Kea has been named the ACC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, and Duke’s Miela Goodchild is the ACC Freshman of the Week, as announced Monday by the conference office and voted upon by the Blue Ribbon Panel.
The ACC weekly honors are the second of the season for both student-athletes
Kea scored 25 points and handed out eight assists to lead the Tar Heels to a 93-78 win over Boston College on Thursday night. The Greensboro, North Carolina, native went 10-for-17 from the floor and came up with three steals in addition to blocking one shot.
She followed up with a season-high 32 points in Sunday’s game against No. 19 NC State, going 11-for-17 from the floor, including three from 3-point range. She added four steals and five assists.
For the week, Kea averaged 28.5 points, 6.5 assists and 3.5 steals while shooting 21-for-34 from the floor.
Goodchild set a Duke record by sinking eight 3-pointers in Thursday night’s game at fifth-ranked Notre Dame. Goodchild finished with a career-high 26 points to go along with three assists and three rebounds. She became only the second Duke freshman since Alana Beard to score 26 or more points against a top-five ranked opponent and the first to do so on the road.
Goodchild is the only freshman nationally to notch eight or more three-pointers against a power five team. Her 14 three-pointers attempted was also a Duke freshman record. Goodchild scored 21 of her 26 points in the second half, and her 26 points was tied for the 12th most by a Duke freshman in school history.
Goodchild added 14 points, three assists and three steals at Wake Forest. She hit 12-of-22 three-pointers on the week, while averaging 20.0 points, 3.0 assists, 2.0 rebounds and 1.5 steals.
