GREENSBORO, N.C. – Syracuse junior point guard Tiana Mangakahia has been named the ACC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, and NC State center Elissa Cunane is the ACC Freshman of the Week, as announced Monday by the conference office and voted upon by the Blue Ribbon Panel.
 
The ACC weekly honors are the fourth of the season for both student-athletes.
 
Mangakahia averaged 29.3 points, 7.7 assists, 4.7 rebounds and 2.7 steals in a 2-1 week for the Orange. The native of Brisbane, Australia, tied a career-high 44 points on 16-for-20 shooting in a road win at No. 22 Florida State. She scored 17 points, all in the second half, against No. 4 Notre Dame in the Orange’s only loss this week and poured in 27 points in a win at Boston College on Sunday.
 
Mangakahia reached the career 1,000-point milestone with a deep three to beat the buzzer at the end of the first quarter against BC, becoming the fastest player in program history (60 games) to reach that milestone. She is the fourth Orange in program history to record 1,000 career points and 500 assists. Mangakahia shot 90.9 percent from the foul line for the week and currently leads the ACC in that category.


 
NC State’s Cunane opened the week with a double-double in the 10th-ranked Wolfpack’s road game at No. 3 Louisville, scoring 17 points and pulling down 10 rebounds. The Summerfield, North Carolina, native helped send NC State into the upcoming ACC Women’s Tournament on a winning note with 11 points and five rebounds on Sunday as the Wolfpack edged No. 15 Miami, 70-68.
 
Cunane shot 50 percent from the floor for the week and was a perfect 14-for-14 from the foul line.
