All-ACC Academic Women's Basketball Team Announced

Louisville’s Durr receives Kay Yow Award as Scholar-Athlete of the Year

GREENBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Louisville senior guard Asia Durr is the recipient of the Kay Yow Award as the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year and headlines the 2018-19 All-ACC Women's Basketball Academic Team.

The ACC women’s basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year award is named in memory of the legendary Yow, who won 737 games as a head coach while directing NC State to four ACC Tournament championships and the 1988 U.S. Olympic Team to a gold medal.  Yow, who passed away in January of 2009, is also remembered for her leadership and courage in her fight against breast cancer.

The ACC Player of the Year each of the past two seasons and a three-time first-team All-ACC selection, Durr is averaging 21.4 points per game for the Cardinals (27-2, 14-2), which ties for first in the ACC and 13th in the nation, while connecting on 2.9 three-point field goals per game, which ranks second in the league.

In Louisville’s win over No. 10 NC State on senior night, she tied her own program-record with 47 points, while breaking the ACC record with 11 made 3-pointers. The Douglas, Georgia, native has elevated her game against elite competition, averaging 25.8 points against AP Top 25 teams.

A communication major, Durr has earned a spot on the Dean’s List at Louisville each of the past two years in addition to the ACC Honor Roll. She was also been named to the Louisville Athletic Director’s Honor Roll five semesters.

“I am thrilled that Asia Durr has been named the Kay Yow Scholar Athlete of the Year,” Louisville head coach Jeff Walz said. “There is no question that Asia is a talented basketball player and a great teammate, but I am so proud of the work that she has done in the classroom. She puts as much work into academics as she does basketball, and it’s been a privilege to coach her.”

ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards were established in September 2007 to be awarded annually to the top junior or senior student-athlete in their respective sports. Candidates for the awards must have maintained a 3.0 grade point average for their career as well as a 3.0 for each of the last two semesters. The award is based 60 percent on academic achievement and 40 percent on athletic accomplishment.

Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one’s academic career. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.

The ACC Honor Roll, which recognizes all conference student-athletes with a grade point average of 3.0 for the current academic year, will be released in July.
