ACC Points of Pride

ACC National Championships
  • The ACC has won seven national championships in football, men’s basketball, women’s basketball and baseball since 2015. That is the most of any conference and the next closest conference has four. The ACC is the only conference to win each of those four titles over that stretch.
  • The ACC's seven national titles in those sports have come from six different programs – Virginia men’s basketball (2019), Clemson football (2018, 2016), Notre Dame women’s basketball (2018), North Carolina men’s basketball (2017), Duke men’s basketball (2015), Virginia baseball (2015).
  • The ACC has won more football national titles than any other conference since 2013 (three of the last six) and more men’s basketball national championships than any other league since 2015 (three of the last five).

  • The ACC won the football and men’s basketball national titles in the same academic year for the fourth time overall and the second time in the last three years.

  • The ACC has won five team national championships this year and eight individual titles.
  • North Carolina field hockey, Florida State women’s soccer, Clemson football, Virginia men’s basketball and Duke women's golf.

Baseball
  • The 2019 ACC Baseball Championship semifinals and finals will be played this weekend (May 25-26) at Durham Bulls Athletic Park in Durham, North Carolina. Pool play, which began Tuesday, concludes Friday, May 24.
  • The city of Durham is playing host to the 12-team tournament for the second consecutive year, the seventh time in the last 11 years and the 12th time overall. 
  • Six teams - Louisville, Georgia Tech, NC State, Miami, North Carolina and Florida State - are ranked in at least one major college baseball poll. Georgia Tech is ranked as high as No. 6 by D1 Baseball and Louisville is ranked as high as No. 7 by USA Today Coaches Poll and Collegiate Baseball.
  • The league’s 2019 individual honorees and All-ACC Teams were announced Monday afternoon. Wake Forest sophomore first baseman Bobby Seymour was voted the ACC Player of the Year by the league’s head coaches, while Louisville sophomore left-hander Reid Detmers earned the nod as ACC Pitcher of the Year. NC State junior shortstop Will Wilson was selected the ACC Defensive Player of the Year, while North Carolina designated hitter/utility man Aaron Sabato was tabbed as the Freshman of the Year. Georgia Tech’s Danny Hall was recognized by his peers as the ACC Coach of the Year.
  • The ACC has had at least six teams in the NCAA Tournament for 15 consecutive years.
  • Florida State made its 41st straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament last year, the longest active streak in the country. FSU’s 56 all-time appearances is the second most nationally, while Miami’s 45 is third and Clemson’s 43 is fifth.
  • Over the last 13 years, the ACC has made 234 appearances in the College World Series, more than percent of the cumulative field.
  • The 14 current ACC programs have a combined 94 College World Series appearances.
  • At least two ACC teams have reached the College World Series in eight of the last 13 years, and at least one ACC team has advanced to the College World Series each of those 13 years

Men’s Golf
  • Six ACC Men’s Golf teams – the most since 2006 – advanced from NCAA regional play and will compete at the NCAA Championship May 24-29 at Blessings Golf Club in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

Women’s Golf
  • Duke won its seventh women's golf national title and first since 2014 in a tightly-contested battle over Wake Forest. The Blue Devils needed extra holes in three matches to earn a 3-2 match play victory over the Demon Deacons at the Blessings Golf Club in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
  • Four ACC Women’s Golf teams advanced to the NCAA National Championship, including Duke, Florida State, Virginia and Wake Forest.
  • Duke and Wake finished in the top eight of stroke play to earn a berth in the match play competition. Duke defeated Stanford and Arizona to advance to the finals, while Wake Forest beat Arkansas and Auburn to set up the all ACC final.

Men's Lacrosse 
  • No. 2 overall seed Duke and No. 3 seed Virginia will meet in the national semifinals of the 2019 NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Championship on Saturday, May 25 at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia. The finals will be held Monday, May 27 at 1 p.m.  
  • The ACC has won 15 NCAA titles, the most recent coming in 2016 by North Carolina.
  • At least one current ACC member has advanced to the national semifinals in 39 of the last 40 years.
  • ACC member teams have appeared in the semifinals 78 times, advancing to the championship match on 33 occasions and 17 of the last 19 seasons.
  • Current ACC membership collectively owns 24 NCAA titles, including seven of the last 11.
  • Virginia advanced to Championship Weekend for the 23rd time in program history, while Duke is making its 12th appearance in the semifinals and second consecutive.
  • The Cavaliers have won five national championships and the Blue Devils have claimed three national titles.
  • Duke and Notre Dame met in the 2014 National Championship Game, which was the last time two ACC teams met on championship weekend.

Women's Lacrosse 
  • No. 2 overall seed Boston College and No. 3 seed North Carolina will meet in the national semifinals of the 2019 NCAA Women’s Lacrosse Championship on Friday, May 24 at Homewood Field in Baltimore, Maryland, at 5 p.m. on ESPN3. It is the third meeting of the season between the two ACC rivals. Boston College won the first game, a regular-season matchup on March 23, 14-8. Carolina won the rematch with a 15-13 victory in the ACC Championship game.  
  • Boston College standouts Sam Apuzzo and Dempsey Arsenault are finalists for the women’s 2019 Tewaaraton Award, which honors the top college lacrosse player in the United States.
  • Boston College is making its third straight appearance in Championship weekend, while the Tar Heels are back for the 11th time in program history. Carolina has made the national semifinals in eight of the last 11 seasons.
  • Including this year, the ACC has been represented by at least one team in the national semifinals in each of the last 30 years and 34 times overall.
  • The ACC owns 15 NCAA Women’s Lacrosse titles. North Carolina was the last ACC team to win the NCAA Championship in 2016.
  • The ACC has had a team in the national title game nine times in the last 10 years.

Rowing
  • Virginia earned its 10th consecutive ACC Rowing Championship last Saturday at Lake Hartwell. The Cavaliers edged Duke by five points (95-90) in the overall team standings thanks to the first-place finish in the First Varsity Eight and have now won 19 titles in the 20 years of the championship’s existence.

Softball
  • No. 4 Florida State went undefeated in its regional, securing a trip to the NCAA Super Regional and helping the ACC extend its streak of sending at least one team to the Super Regionals for the seventh straight season.
  • The Seminoles are playing host to Oklahoma State in the best of three Super Regionals this weekend in Tallahassee, Florida. FSU lost Thursday night's game and must win two in a row to advance to the Women's College World Series.
  • Five ACC teams earned NCAA Softball championship bids – No. 4 Florida State, Louisville, North Carolina, Notre Dame and Virginia Tech.

Tennis
  • The ACC had two men's teams and two women's team in the Final Four of the NCAA Tennis Championships, the first conference to accomplish the feat since 2014.
  • No. 2 North Carolina and No. 5 Duke advanced to the NCAA Women's Tennis Championship Semifinals, the second year in a row two ACC women's teams made the semifinals.
  • No. 4 Wake Forest and No. 9 North Carolina played each other in the NCAA Men's Tennis Championship Semifinals, marking the eighth time in the last nine years an ACC men's team played in the final match, and the 10th straight year the ACC placed at least one team in the semifinals.

Track & Field
  • A season-high 40 ACC student-athletes rank among the nation’s top 10 in their respective events as they take part this week’s NCAA East Preliminary at Jacksonville, Florida.
  • In total, more than 300 ACC student-athletes are set for Regional competition. The qualifiers will compete in the NCAA Division I Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships held June 5-8 in Austin, Texas.
