GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) - Sixteen student-athletes have been honored as part of the 2018-19 Men’s Golf All-Atlantic Coast Conference Team announced Wednesday.
Headlining the All-ACC Team are Clemson’s Bryson Nimmer, the ACC Player of the Year, and Wake Forest’s Eugenio Chacarra, the ACC Freshman of the Year. Georgia Tech’s Bruce Heppler garnered ACC Coach of the Year accolades for the second consecutive season and 10th time in his career.
The All-ACC Team, Player, and Freshman of the Year were decided by a combination of the Golfstat and Golfweek/Sagarin rankings in conjunction with a vote of the league’s 12 head coaches, while Coach of the Year was selected by a vote of the coaches.
Nimmer finished the season ranked No. 5 in the country according to Golfweek and was No. 8 in Golfstat. A senior from Bluffton, South Carolina, he had a scoring average of 68.97 in 30 rounds and posted nine top-10 finishes in 10 events played this season and won four tournaments. He is the fourth Clemson golfer to win the award, joining Richard Coughlan (1997), D.J. Trahan (2002) and Kyle Stanley (2007).
Chacarra is the fifth Demon Deacon to be named ACC Freshman of the Year, joining Justin Roof (1994), Bill Haas (2001), Webb Simpson (2005) and Will Zalatoris (2015). The Madrid, Spain, native finished the regular season with a 70.94 scoring average and had five top-10 finishes in 11 tournaments this year.
Heppler led the Yellow Jackets to their 18th ACC Championship and 10th in the last 14 years in April at the Old North State Club. Heppler has won the ACC Coach of the Year award more than any other coach in league history.
Nine ACC programs are represented on the All-ACC Team, led by Georgia Tech with four golfers and Duke with three.
