Duke's Virginia Elena Carta Headlines 2019 All-ACC Academic Women's Golf Team

GREENSBORO, N.C. (TheACC.com) - Duke senior Virginia Elena Carta, the Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Golf Scholar-Athlete of the Year, heads up the 2019 All-ACC Academic Team announced Wednesday.

Carta, who helped lead the Blue Devils to the 2019 NCAA title, is a four-time All-ACC Academic honoree and a four-time All-ACC selection. She is one of just 20 golfers in NCAA history to win both an NCAA team title (2019) and an individual national championship (2016).  Majoring in Environmental Sciences and Policy, Carta has been named a Women’s Golf Coaches Association All-America Scholar all four seasons at Duke.

A total of 12 student-athletes who earned All-ACC honors this season also secured spots on the academic honors team: Clemson’s Alic Hewson; Duke’s Jaravee Boonchant, Gina Kim and Carta; Florida State’s Frida Kinhult and Beatrice Wallin; Louisville’s Lauren Hartlage; North Carolina’s Jennifer Zhou; Virginia’s Beth Lillie and Anna Redding; and Wake Forest’s Siyun Liu and Emilia Migliaccio.

Duke and Virginia Tech led the way with four honorees each, while Florida State, North Carolina and Virginia each had three.

Carta, Notre Dame’s Emma Albrecht and Virginia's Anna Redding were honored for the fourth consecutive season.

The ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year award was established in September 2007 to be awarded annually to the top junior or senior student-athlete in their respective sports. Candidates for the award must have maintained a 3.0 grade point average for their career as well as a 3.0 for each of the last two semesters.

To be eligible for consideration for the All-ACC Academic team, a student-athlete, regardless of classification, must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during her academic career.

The ACC Honor Roll, which recognizes all conference student-athletes with a grade point average of 3.0 for the current academic year, will be released in July.
