GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Virginia’s Heidi Long has been named the 2018-19 Atlantic Coast Conference Rowing Scholar-Athlete of the Year and headlines the All-ACC Academic Team announced on Wednesday.
Long, a senior majoring in biology and cognitive science, helped lead the Cavaliers to their 10th consecutive ACC Championship. The Buckinghamshire, England native was a member of Virginia’s Varsity Eight, which earned ACC Crew of the Year.
She is also a three-time First Team All-ACC selection and was the ACC Freshman of the Year in 2016.
Virginia led all schools with 11 student-athletes on the team, while Duke and Louisville each had 10. Eight from Syracuse garnered a spot on the team, six from Notre Dame, Clemson and North Carolina each had five.
Boston College and Miami each placed three student-athletes on the team.
A total of 12 student-athletes who earned All-ACC honors this season also secured spots on the academic honors team: Boston College’s Kylie Kraemer, Clemson’s Aliute Udoka and Isla McRae, Duke’s Amelia Shunk, Louisville’s Violette Legrand, Notre Dame’s Laura Migliore and Emily Stinebaugh, Syracuse’s Sydney Michalak and Virginia’s Anna Fairs, (Heidi) Long, Mackenzie King and Izzi Weiss.
The ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards were established in September 2007 to be awarded annually to the top junior or senior student-athlete in their respective sports.
Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one’s academic career for undergraduate students. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.
The ACC Honor Roll, which recognizes all conference student-athletes with a grade point average of 3.0 for the current academic year, will be released in July.
