GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – The Atlantic Coast Conference today recognized the following student-athletes as ACC Cross Country Performers of the Week for September 18.
ACC Men’s Performer of the Week – Rohann Asfaw, Virginia, Jr., Rockville, Md.
Asfaw led the Cavaliers last weekend, capturing the top 8K time at the Cavalier Classic. Asfaw’s performance led Virginia to a first-place team finish as UVA raced Duke, Norfolk State, Tennessee and North Carolina at the meet. At 24:25.9, Asfaw was more than a second faster than the second-place runner, CJ Ambrosio from Duke, who ran a time of 24:27.2. Asfaw battled into first place by the 5k mark, held his lead and pushed out of the pack on the final 3k.
ACC Women’s Performer of the Week – Ivine Chemutai, Louisville, So., Eldoret, Kenya
Chemutai led the Cardinal women with a top-10 finish at the Commodore Classic on Saturday at Vanderbilt. She finished the 6K race with a time of 21:30.1. The sophomore ran an average kilometer time of 3:35.0.
ACC Men’s Freshman of the Week – Isaac Kiprop, Louisville, Fr., Eldoret, Kenya
Kiprop was the second finisher for the Cardinals in his first collegiate race as he placed seventh in the Commodore Classic men’s 8K. The freshman posted an overall time of 24:36.1, and his average kilometer time was 3:04.5.
