Dieye, Constant Earn ACC Men’s Soccer Player of Week Honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. (TheACC.com) – Louisville senior midfielder Cherif Dieye and North Carolina junior defender Matt Constant have been selected as the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Soccer Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively.

A native of Dakar, Senegal, Dieye scored both of the Cardinals’ goals in a 2-1 comeback win over No. 17 Virginia Tech on Friday night. The goals each came in the final nine minutes of the match, with the game winner coming with 5:23 remaining in the contest. It was the first multi-goal game of Dieye’s career.

A native of Dallas, Texas, Constant anchored the back line for the Tar Heels in two suffocating defensive efforts in which North Carolina gave up just one shot on goal in 200 total minutes. UNC held Davidson without a shot on goal in 110 minutes on Tuesday in a scoreless draw. The Tar Heels then limited No. 16 Notre Dame to only one shot on goal in 90 minutes in a 2-0 win.

The ACC men’s soccer slate for this week begins Monday, as No. 5 Virginia entertains Western Michigan in a 7 p.m. match which will air on ACC Network. The third weekend of conference play starts on Friday with five matches. On Saturday, top-ranked Wake Forest plays host to unbeaten Clemson, which is ranked No. 7.
