Six National Leaders Earn ACC Indoor Track & Field Honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – The following student-athletes have been selected as Atlantic Coast Conference Indoor Track and Field Performers of the Week for January 22. Each of this week’s six honorees rank among the nation’s top four in his or her respective events, and three rank No. 1 nationally.

Men’s Track Co-Performer of the Week
Raheem Chambers, Miami, Sr.; Kingston, Jamaica
Competing in a competitive field of 26 runners in the 60-meter dash at the Vanderbilt Invitational, Chambers lived up to his preseason ranking as he boasted a nation-leading time of 6.57. The Hurricanes’ senior broke his previous Miami record of 6.62 in the event.

Men’s Track Co-Performer of the Week
Jacory Patterson, Virginia Tech, So.; Columbia, S.C.
Patterson opened his sophomore campaign by breaking Torrin Lawrence's 10-year-old 300-meter dash collegiate record (32.32), with his time of 32.28 seconds at the Virginia Tech Invitational. Patterson’s time is the sixth-fastest ever by an American and the 11th-fastest by anyone. Patterson also ran the anchor leg on the 4x400-meter relay team that broke the school record, posting a time of 3:09.28 that currently ranks sixth nationally.

Men’s Co-Field Performer of the Week
Isaac Grimes, Florida State, Jr.; Moreno Valley, Calif.
One week after making his Florida State debut with a long jump victory and a facility record at the Orange & Purple Elite, junior transfer Isaac Grimes was even better at the Vanderbilt Invitational. Grimes became just the fourth Seminole to eclipse 26-feet in the long jump with a winning mark of 7.97 meters (26-1.75). It was a personal-best indoor mark for the California native, who strengthened his hold on the No. 2 position on the NCAA Division I list. The 2019 NCAA Division II national champion for Chadron State recorded a pair of marks (7.97, 7.93) that eclipsed last week’s 7.91 jump and turned back FSU teammate and defending meet champion Fabian Edoki (7.77m/25-6), who finished second.

Men’s Co-Field Performer of the Week
Daniel McArthur, North Carolina, Sr.; Mooresville, N.C.
McArthur broke his own school record in the shot put with his gold medal throw of 20.35m/66-9.25 at the Virginia Tech Invitational. McArthur bettered the UNC record he previously set last season before going on to win the 2019 ACC Indoor shot put title. Last Saturday’s mark moves him from fourth to second nationally, as well as tops in the ACC by more than a meter.

Women’s Track Performer of the Week
Andrea Foster, Clemson, Sr.; Georgetown, Guyana
Foster’s blazing gold medal showing of 2:05.30 in the 800 meters at last weekend’s Clemson Invitational stands as a world-leading time, a nation-leading mark, a personal best and the sixth-best time in program history. Foster, making her season debut in the event, improved upon her previous indoor 800 best (2:08.74) and previous overall best (2:06.15). Foster also ran in last weekend’s meet as a member of Clemson’s “A” DMR team, which took first place in the meet and currently ranks fourth nationally.

Women’s Field Performer of the Week
Rachel Baxter, Virginia Tech, Jr.; Orange, Calif.
Baxter launched her 2020 Indoor season with the 10th event title of her career, capturing the women’s pole vault with a mark of 4.41 meters/14-5.5 at the Virginia Tech Invitational. Baxter’s mark leads the ACC and currently stands fourth nationally.
