GREENSBORO, N.C. – NC State sophomore Elissa Cunane has been named Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, and Pitt’s Amber Brown is the ACC Freshman of the Week.
ACC women’s basketball weekly awards are voted on by the league’s Blue Ribbon Panel.
Cunane posted a pair of 20-point games to lead NC State to a perfect week, as the ninth-ranked Wolfpack moved to 14-0 and is now one of the nation’s four remaining unbeaten teams. The sophomore center tied a career high with 28 points against Virginia Tech to go along with nine rebounds, scoring 23 second-half points including seven unanswered in the fourth quarter.
The Summerfield, North Carolina, native tallied her eighth double-double of the season against Virginia on Sunday, netting a game-high 26 points with 10 rebounds. For the week, she averaged 27.0 points and 9.5 rebounds per game while connecting on 19-of-21 free throws.
Brown turned in three strong performances for Pitt last week, highlighted by 12 points and 11 rebounds against Notre Dame to record her fifth double-double of the season. She grabbed a career-high 13 rebounds in Monday’s game at North Carolina and added seven points.
Hailing from Monroe, Louisiana, Brown logged consecutive games with 10 or more rebounds for the third time this season. She ended the week averaging 8.3 points and 10.0 rebounds per game.
ACC women’s basketball action returns on Thursday, January 9, with a full slate of conference games, including an ACC Network doubleheader as Virginia hosts Duke at 6 p.m. and Miami welcomes No. 7 Louisville at 8 p.m.
