GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – NC State redshirt junior Tariq Wilson has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Wrestler of the Week after his key victory helped the third-ranked Wolfpack to a 19-14 team win over No. 8 North Carolina in last Friday night’s top-10 conference showdown.
 
Ranked 11th nationally at 141 pounds, Wilson picked up his first top-10 win since 2018 as he defeated the Tar Heels’ No. 10 Zach Sherman 6-0 to give NC State a shot of momentum in a hard-fought bout that was tightly contested through the final weight class.
 
After a scoreless first period, Wilson registered an escape in the second to take a 1-0 lead. He started the final period on top, recorded a pair of two-point near-falls, and then added the ride-time point for the shutout win before a Reynolds Coliseum wrestling-record crowd of 4,383. The Steubenville, Ohio, native improved to a perfect 8-0 in duals this year, including a 3-0 ACC mark.
 
NC State (13-0 overall, 3-0 ACC) is the only team that remains unbeaten in ACC action. The Wolfpack will attempt to clinch at least a share of the ACC regular-season title this Friday night, when it plays host to No. 7 Virginia Tech in a 7 p.m. match that will be carried live by ACC Network.
