GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Florida State senior forward Kiah Gillespie has been named Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, and Notre Dame guard Katlyn Gilbert is the ACC Freshman of the Week.
ACC women’s basketball weekly awards are voted on by the league’s Blue Ribbon Panel.
Gillespie averaged 23.5 points and 10.5 rebounds in leading Florida State to a perfect 2-0 week, highlighted by a 67-59 road win at No. 5 Louisville. Against the Cardinals last Thursday, she scored a game-high 25 points and led all players with 13 rebounds as the Seminoles handed the Cardinals their first conference loss of the season.
She notched her 10th double-double of the season and hit three 3-pointers in the upset win. Gillespie’s 23 career double-doubles places her fifth in FSU history in less than two full seasons. The Meriden, Connecticut, native followed that performance with 22 points and eight rebounds versus Virginia.
Gilbert put together a pair of strong performances to lead the Fighting Irish to a 75-71 win at Wake Forest and a 74-52 home victory against Pitt. She scored 12 points and pulled down four rebounds against the Demon Deacons.
A native of Indianapolis, Gilbert poured in 17 points against Pitt and has now scored 10 or more points in 21 of the team’s 24 games this year. For the season, she is averaging 13.9 points per game to lead all ACC freshmen and ranks among the top 15 in the conference.
ACC women’s basketball action returns on Thursday, February 13, with a full slate of conference games, including an ACC Network doubleheader as Pitt hosts Duke at 6 p.m. and ninth-ranked Louisville travels to No. 4 NC State for an 8 p.m. tip-off.
