GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Syracuse sophomore attackman Chase Scanlan earned ACC Men’s Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week honors, while Virginia junior goalkeeper Alex Rode nabbed ACC Defensive Player of the Week laurels.
A native of Irving, New York, Scanlan scored the most goals ever by a player in his Syracuse debut with a seven-goal outburst in a Friday win against Colgate. His seven goals was the most by a Syracuse player since 2015, and he became the 17th player in program history to score seven or more goals in a game, with it being the 28th time the feat has been accomplished. He scored his seven goals on just 12 shots.
Rode helped Virginia to a 12-9 season-opening win over No. 14 Loyola. The native of Timonium, Maryland, tied a career high with 19 saves as Loyola peppered him with 55 shots. He made 13 of his saves in the first half after facing 28 shots, while UVA built a 9-3 first-half lead. As UVA lost 9-of-11 second half face-offs, his play staved off Loyola's comeback. He also picked up six ground balls and caused two turnovers.
