Two Top-Ranked Competitors Highlight ACC Performers of the Week

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Notre Dame distance runner Yared Nuguse and Virginia triple-jumper Jordan Scott posted nation-leading marks last weekend and highlight the Atlantic Coast Conference Indoor Track and Field Performers of the Week for Feb. 12. Virginia Tech made a sweep of ACC weekly women’s honors.
 
Men’s Track Performer of the Week
Yared Nuguse, Notre Dame, Jr.; Louisville, Ky.
Nuguse broke the Notre Dame program record, the Loftus Sports Center track record and the Meyo Invitational record in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 7:46.71 to win the event last Saturday. The time is the fastest recorded in the country at the NCAA Division I level this season.
 
Men’s Field Performer of the Week
Jordan Scott, Virginia, Sr.; Portmore, Jamaica
The reigning indoor national champion again leads the nation in the triple jump at 16.64m (54-7.25) following his Doc Hale Elite Meet record-setting performance last weekend at Virginia Tech. Three of Scott’s attempts bettered the prior national-leading mark of 16.46m. He recorded three jumps of better than 54 feet during the series and a fourth jump beyond 53 feet.
 
Women’s Track Performer of the Week
Caitlan Tate, Virginia Tech, Jr.; Atlanta, Ga.
Tate broke the Virginia Tech school record with her time of 23.39 in the 200 meters at the Doc Hale Elite Meet. Her time ranks as the fastest time in the conference and 12th nationally. Tate also ran the anchor leg (53.91 split) for the Hokies’ 4x400 relay team that broke the school record with their time of 3:36.24.
 
Women’s Field Performer of the Week
Rachel Baxter, Virginia Tech, Jr.; Orange, Calif.
Baxter repeated as ACC Women’s Field Performer of the Week after her pole vault effort of 4.45 meters at the Doc Hale Elite Meet matched the No. 5 mark in the nation. Baxter, who also holds the No. 2 mark in the nation at 4.53m, recorded the second-highest leap of any competitor in the country over the past weekend.
