Greensboro, N.C. (theACC.com) – North Carolina’s William Blumberg has been named the ACC Men’s Tennis Player of the Week, and NC State’s pair of Tadas Babelis and Yannai Barkai has been selected as the Doubles Team of the Week.
Blumberg shined in North Carolina’s shutouts of No. 12 South Carolina and No. 19 Illinois. The senior from Greenwich, Connecticut, defeated South Carolina’s Paul Jubb, 6-3, 6-4, and Illinois’ Aleks Kovacevic, 6-2, 6-2, both at the No. 1 singles position. Jubb won the 2019 NCAA Singles Championship, and Kovacevic was a semifinalist.
Babelis, a junior from Vilnius, Lithuania, and Barkai, a sophomore from Kiryat Ono, Israel, clinched the doubles points for NC State in wins over Penn and Princeton. The Wolfpack duo won both matches at the No. 1 doubles spots, and defeated Princeton’s 13th-ranked duo of Ryan Seggerman and Payton Holden.
