KANSAS CITY, Mo. (theACC.com) – After the Atlantic Coast Conference led the nation with six semifinalists, all three finalists for the 2024 Women’s Soccer Missouri Athletic Club (MAC) Hermann Trophy hail from the ACC, as Duke’s Maggie Graham, North Carolina’s Kate Faasse and Wake Forest’s Caiya Hanks were named finalists on Wednesday by the United Soccer Coaches and the MAC.
The MAC Hermann Trophy, the most coveted individual honor in NCAA Division I soccer, has been awarded annually since 1967. The 2024 MAC Hermann Trophy banquet will be held at the historic Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis on Jan. 3, 2025, to formally announce this year’s winners.
Graham led Duke and ranked fourth in the ACC in scoring with 14 goals, as the Blue Devils earned the conference’s regular-season title and the No. 1 seed in the 2024 Ally ACC Women’s Soccer Championship. The Atlanta, Georgia, native recorded three multi-goal games this season, headlined by a pair of braces in the NCAA Tournament. The midfielder’s season was highlighted by a 3-goal, 1-assist effort in a 4-1 win at Stanford, becoming just the second player in program history to record a hat trick in an ACC match. At the end of the regular season, Graham was named the 2024 ACC Midfielder of the Year and to the All-ACC First Team.
Faasse closed the season as the nation’s leading scorer with 20 goals, as she helped North Carolina to its 23rd national championship on Monday. The Phoenix, Arizona, native capped the year with six goals in seven postseason matches, including the game-winning overtime golden goal against Penn State to send the Tar Heels to their 32nd College Cup. An All-ACC First Team selection, Faasse totaled five multi-goal matches, including three coming against conference opponents.
Hanks paced Wake Forest with 11 goals and 12 assists, ranking fourth in the ACC in total points with 34. The Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, native recorded three goals and five assists in the Demon Deacons’ run to the national championship match, including a stellar performance with two goals and two assists in a first-round 4-0 victory over Morehead State. For that performance, Hanks was named the TopDrawerSoccer National Player of the Week. The junior tallied a goal or an assist in 13 of Wake Forest's 24 matches, including six league contests.
This season marks the second time in three seasons all three finalists for the Hermann Trophy are from the ACC. In 2022, Duke’s Michelle Cooper, Florida State’s Jenna Nighswonger and Notre Dame’s Korbin Albert were named semifinalists, while Cooper becoming the first Blue Devil to take home the Herman Trophy. In that span, only two players from outside the ACC have been named finalists.
A student-athlete from the ACC has won the Hermann Trophy the last four seasons, while current membership has won the annual award for the seven straight years, dating back to 2017. Overall, ACC student-athletes have won 16 Hermann Trophies, while the current membership has won 26 awards.
